The $2.5 million contract that Ken Griffey Jr. signed with the Mariners has incentives tied into the team's attendance figures this season.
"Our season tickets ... we're down," team president Chuck Armstrong said Saturday. "We're down substantially."
The Mariners hope Griffey, who will receive a $2 million base salary, has a significant impact on single-game tickets, which go on sale in March.
