Alfonso Soriano has had a slow start as a member of the Cubs and Derrek Lee feels the high-price free agent acquisition is trying too hard. "I've gotten off to a lot of bad starts," Lee said. "His situation is different. He has a track record. He has put up some monster numbers, so I don't think his confidence is wavering. "It's going to come. I think it's one of those situations where he comes to a new team and he's probably trying to do too much to impress. Now he'll start playing so his natural ability will come out. He's not doing terrible. He's getting his hits. The [hamstring] injury didn't help him." Manager Lou Piniella echoed Lee's theory that Soriano was trying to do too much. "He has to stop trying to over-do and let it happen," Piniella said. "He has a ton of ability. Moving him to left field has been a real wise decision. You'll see him start stepping it up. "But if you would have told me Alfonso would have one RBI by the end of April, I think I would have lost a few shillings."
