The Washington Nationals are preparing themselves for the departure of Bryce Harper after the 2018 season.

Harper and the Nationals have been far apart on extension talks as he's seeking a 10-year deal worth more than $400 million.

Scott Boras says the only active negotiations of late have involved a one-year deal in 2017.

"I have had no long-term discussions with the Nationals on Bryce," Boras said in a text message to USA TODAY Sports. "No terms, no offers discussed. Only arbitration-year discussions."

The largest contract in baseball belongs to Giancarlo Stanton, who signed a record 13-year, $325 million contract extension in 2014 that’s heavily backloaded.

Harper will be 26 when he hits the market.
