Matt Cain worked on both his arm strength and delivery during a recent rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento.

The San Francisco Giants right-hander addressed what went wrong mechanically in the wake of elbow surgery and his effort to fix it.

"I got into a bad habit of dropping my elbow and pushing the ball to the plate," Cain said, "instead of getting on top of it and using some leverage to get it down in the strike zone."

His pitches were flat and his command took a hit as a result.

"It has to do with what the hitter sees," Cain said. "If the ball stays in the same plane a long time, it's easier to hit."
