New York Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen was admitted to a local Atlanta hospital on Thursday afternoon after experiencing a rapid heartbeat.

Warthen, 62, was at Turner Field before Thursday's win over the Atlanta Braves when the decision was made to send him for medical attention.

A Mets spokesman said Warthen will remain at the hospital overnight, and manager Terry Collins said he does not expect Warthen to be in uniform on Friday.

"I just got a text from him, and he was eating cake, so he couldn't be that bad," Collins said. "We certainly will keep an eye on him."
