Jason Heyward is welcoming the change of scenery and new opportunity he has been given with the St. Louis Cardinals.

"Who is going to bring out the best in me?" Heyward said. "Who is going to provide that environment on a daily basis that says you have a great opportunity to be great for as long as you can play? That's the biggest thing for me. Money will take care of itself. That's part of it. The sooner that is done the better, for me. That's not to say it has to be before, during, or after this season. When it happens, it happens. I want to see how good I can be. I don't know yet."

The Cardinals intend to install Heyward near the top of their order, likely batting No. 2 as he did the first two games of spring training. He is entering the traditional peak for a hitter, and his next contract could take him through his prime years.

"I want to win a World Series. I would like to say that I want to win multiple World Series, but so many people don't have one, so I'll start by saying one," Heyward said. "We're five years into this thing and I don't feel like I've been given a shot at seeing what's possible. This is going to be the time of my life finding out. ... I do understand that it takes a group of people for support, that it's not going to happen with an individual. It takes a team to bring out the best. That's what I would look for.

"I want to find out how good all this can go."
