The Boston Red Sox are in no rush to trade Allen Craig, who they coveted long before acquiring him from the St. Louis Cardinals last summer.

The Red Sox have a surplus in the outfield, but are just an injury away from needed Craig.

Boston wanted to draft Craig out of Cal-Berkeley in 2006, according to a source.

The Red Sox could use Craig if injuries occur in the outfield, at first base or designated hitter.

His trade value is also fairly low. He's coming off a disappointing season and is owed $25.5 million over the next three years plus a $1 million buyout on his $13 million option for 2018.
