It was reported Monday morning that the Chicago Cubs have asked about acquiring a competitive balance-round draft pick and the associated bonus slot money as part of a package for Jeff Samardzija.

Major League teams are only allowed to swap competitive balance picks, would give Chicago an extra pick either between 35th-41st overall or 69th-74th overall.

However, another report indicates that Chicago hasn't inquired about receiving a competitive balance draft pick as part of a Samardzija deal.
