Michael Pineda, who has not pitched since April 23, will be shut down for at least another 10 days after a recurrence of the shoulder muscle soreness that landed him on the disabled list.

"That's a doctor's call," Joe Girardi said. "I think the last time we shut him down 10 days before he picked up a baseball, and I'm sure it will be 10 days here, maybe a little more depending on what they feel. It's not what we want. It's very similar to what he had about six weeks ago."

The New York Yankees don't believe the injury is related to the extensive shoulder surgery he underwent in 2012 after tearing his labrum in spring training.

"I feel sad," he said. "I don't have nothing to do. But I'm keeping my head up, continuing my work, and that's it."
