Alex Rodriguez was set to ditch his crutches on Saturday, less than a week after undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery to repair a torn labrum. Rodriguez spoke with Yankees manager Joe Girardi on Friday to give him an update on his progression. The third baseman was supposed to start doing some exercises in a swimming pool in the next day or two. "He was supposed to get off the crutches today and start doing a little more rehab," Girardi said Saturday. "He said he was in a good frame of mind. He asked how the club was doing and how I was doing. He said he was doing well and I said, 'Just keep it going.' "
