A lot has been made of Hanley Ramirez's defense, but he is also trying to refine his approach at the plate in preparation for the 2016 season.

Boston Red Sox hitting coach Chili Davis admitted late last season that he was still trying to feel a connection with Ramirez. Davis hoped Ramirez would shorten his swing and trust he had enough power to damage the baseball without taking such large hacks.

"We're just trying to find our timing, nice and easy, and try to be short and let the ball travel a little," Ramirez said. "My shoulder helps everything. It made my swing shorter."

Ramirez had a left shoulder injury last season that impacted his swing.
