The Chicago Cubs briefly explored a "mega extension" for Jake Arrieta this offseason, but the two sides didn't agree on the length of a new contract, according to a report.

Arrieta, a client of Scott Boras, was believed to be seeking a seven-year deal.

The Cubs agreed to a $10.7 million deal with the right-hander to avoid arbitration for the coming season. He is also under club control for the 2017 season. Arrieta turned 30 on Sunday.
