The Cincinnati Reds have announced that Homer Bailey will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the season.

Bailey tore a ligament in his right elbow and will have Tommy John surgery next Friday.

The right-hander received a $105 million, six-year contract before last season and went 9-5 in 23 starts with a 3.71 ERA before having surgery in September to repair a tear in his right forearm by the elbow. He was still recovering from the operation when spring training started.

He opened the season on the disabled list and felt soreness in his elbow after just his second start.
