The Chicago Cubs traded Luis Valbuena to the Houston Astros in the Dexter Fowler deal on Monday, creating a void at third base.

Despite an opening at the position, Jed Hoyer said the Cubs aren't ready to name prospect Kris Bryant their Opening Day starter.

Bryant was the Minor League Player of the Year in 2014.

"It's totally independent," Hoyer said. "Kris' development is independent of any move we made today. We have a number of guys who will be working at third [this spring]."
