Mets second baseman Luis Castillo, who struggled last season, claims that he will be a different player this year. "I've tried to put my mind past it," Castillo said, "and forget everything from last year." He arrived at camp 17 pounds lighter, told his teammates "I'm a different guy" the first day. Last season, Castillo suffered from both injuries and poor play. "I feel like I'm ready for the season, and I want to keep going," Castillo said. "Last year was a tough year for me. I don't want to think about last year because I know I wasn't 100 percent. My knees bothered me, my hip. And I was fighting it. I was fighting it every day."
