The Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Kyle Farnsworth on a two-year contract through the 2010 season. The deal also includes a club option for 2011. Consistent with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. In addition, the Royals announced that right-handed pitcher Jairo Cuevas, who was non-tendered last night prior to the deadline, has agreed to terms on a Triple-A minor league contract. "Kyle Farnsworth's power arm blends in well with the rest of our bullpen," Royals Senior Vice President-Baseball Operations/General Manager Dayton Moore said. "We feel his presence will impact our bullpen and make it very strong." Farnsworth, 32, is a 10-year veteran of the Majors, compiling a 30-48 record and a 4.47 ERA in 612 career appearances (26 starts) for the Cubs (1999-2004), Tigers (2005, 2008), Braves (2005) and Yankees (2006-08). He has allowed 704 hits in 735.0 career innings while striking out 738 against 328 walks. Since the 2003 season, has posted 441 strikeouts, the seventh-most in the Majors among relievers.
