The Phillies defeated the Brewers on Sunday, 6-2, to advance to the NLCS where they will face the Dodgers. Joe Blanton pitched six strong innings for Philadelphia, allowing one earned run on five hits, while striking out seven. Jimmy Rollins led off the game with a home run in the top of the first, and the Phillies never looked back. Pat Burrell hit a three-run shot off Jeff Suppan in the third, and Jayson Werth followed it up with a solo homer of his own to give Philadelphia a 5-0 lead. Suppan, who started for Milwaukee, lasted just three innings, allowing five runs on six hits. He threw just 65 pitches in the loss. Yovani Gallardo and Manny Parra combined to give the Brewers 4 2/3 innings of spotless baseball in relief. Guillermo Mota entered in the eighth, and gave up a solo homer to Burrell, his second of the game, to make it 6-1 heading into the bottom of the inning. Mike Cameron singled to center with one out off Ryan Madson, and then moved to second on fielder's indifference. He moved to third on a grounder to second by Ray Durham, and was singled home by Ryan Braun with two outs. Prince Fielder, who hit a solo shot off Blanton in the seventh to get Milwaukee on the board, came to the plate with the fans smelling a rally at Miller Park. He promptly lined out to second to end the inning, leaving the Brewers with three outs to work with. Mota remained on the mound in the ninth, and Pedro Feliz hit a single to right after Carlos Ruiz popped out to first. Matt Stairs then pinch-hit for Madson and grounded into an inning-ending double play. Philadelphia closer Brad Lidge took the mound in the bottom of the ninth, looking for his third save of the series. Lidge faced J.J. Hardy, who grounded out to third for the first out of the inning. All-Star outfielder Corey Hart then came to the plate and hit a grounder under the glove of Feliz at third to reach first. Hart then advanced to second on defensive indifference, the second time Philadelphia allowed a Milwaukee runner to advance without a throw. Lidge then struck out pinch-hitter Brad Nelson to move the Phillies to within an out of a four-game series win over the Brewers. Jason Kendell came to the plate and grounded out to short to end the game. Before Sunday, the Phillies hadn't won a postseason series since 1993 when they knocked out the Braves in the NLCS.
