Blue Jays GM: 'Doesn't Make Any Sense' To Trade Guerrero Jr., Bichette

Jun 2, 2024 5:33 PM

Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins on Sunday said he's fielded calls from other teams inquiring about first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or shortstop Bo Bichette, but "it just doesn't make any sense for us" to make those trades.

"There will be occasional times when you're talking to other executives when they'll ask if you'd consider it, and we just say it's not something that we have spent any time on," Atkins told MLB Network Radio on Sunday. "Because they are so talented and such great teammates, they are attractive to other teams, so they will call."

Blake Snell Likely Headed To IL With Another Groin Injury

Jun 2, 2024 8:01 PM

San Francisco Giants starter Blake Snell left Sunday's game against the New York Yankees with tightness in his left groin in the fifth inning, a similar injury to the one he dealt with earlier in the season.

Snell was in the middle of an at-bat before walking off with Giants trainer Dave Groeschner and heading directly into the clubhouse. The veteran's last pitch came in at 97 mph before he pushed off the mound in discomfort.

After the game, San Francisco manager Bob Melvin said the starter will undergo an MRI, and to expect a stint on the injured list.

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, who has yet to pitch this season because of nerve inflammation in his right elbow, will make his first minor league rehab start Tuesday.

The reigning American League Cy Young Award winner could throw about 50 pitches for Double-A Somerset against the visiting Hartford Yard Goats, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday.

Boone said Cole, 33, is expected to need at least two outings before the right-hander would be cleared to make his season debut for New York.

Max Scherzer Hopeful Towards Return After Bullpen Session

Jun 2, 2024 2:38 PM

Texas Rangers pitcher Max Scherzer believes he cleared an initial hurdle toward returning to the club after his bullpen session in Miami on Saturday.

The three-time Cy Young Award winner has not pitched for the defending World Series champions this season following back surgery in December.

Scherzer threw approximately 25 pitches before the Rangers' second game of their series against the Miami Marlins. If he continues to show no ill effects, the next step would be for Scherzer to face hitters in a batting practice session.

"I mean this from the bottom of my heart, I'm so sorry for ever leaving you guys," Strawberry told the crowd of 30,600, his voice slowing. "I'm truly, deeply sorry that I ever left you guys. I never played baseball in front of fans greater than you guys."

Aaron Judge Homers Twice In First Game At Oracle Park

Jun 1, 2024 11:46 AM

Aaron Judge grew up watching San Francisco Giants games on television and in person, imagining himself launching long balls like Barry Bonds.

In his first game at Oracle Park, he did his best Bonds impression.

Judge capped a spectacular May by homering twice in his first game in San Francisco as the New York Yankees beat the Giants 6-2 on Friday night.

"I think it was rounding the bases. I kind of looked out to left field, and being out in those bleachers a couple of times, it just brought back some memories," Judge said.
