Aaron Judge Homers Twice In First Game At Oracle Park

Jun 1, 2024 11:46 AM

Aaron Judge grew up watching San Francisco Giants games on television and in person, imagining himself launching long balls like Barry Bonds.

In his first game at Oracle Park, he did his best Bonds impression.

Judge capped a spectacular May by homering twice in his first game in San Francisco as the New York Yankees beat the Giants 6-2 on Friday night.

"I think it was rounding the bases. I kind of looked out to left field, and being out in those bleachers a couple of times, it just brought back some memories," Judge said.

White Sox Owner Jerry Reinsdorf 'Committed To Winning'

May 30, 2024 10:18 AM

The Chicago White Sox have baseball's worst record and at 15-41, they are off to the worst start in the franchise's 124-year history.

The White Sox have been to the playoffs just twice in the last 15 years. The club's payroll of $123.1 million on Opening Day ranked 20th among baseball's 30 teams.

Chicago's payroll was $181.2 million last season. They are one of two teams never to sign a player to a $100 million contract.

Despite all that, manager Pedro Grifol insists that owner Jerry Reinsdorf wants to win.

"I've known Jerry for a year and a half," Grifol said. "Nobody wants to win more than he does. I know that for a fact because I'm the one who gets phone calls, and I talk to him. I get text messages. He is 100% committed to winning. And he is extremely knowledgeable about the game of baseball.

"He's not just a fan. The questions he asks, he knows exactly what's going on. He knows the game. You're not in the game for 44 years, around 1,000 coaches, sitting in on meetings and listen and listen and listen and watch and watch and not know the game. He's passionate, he's extremely competitive."

Yankees' Anthony Volpe Ties Joe DiMaggio With Hitting Streak

May 30, 2024 10:13 AM

Anthony Volpe extended his Major League-leading hitting streak to 21 games in the New York Yankees' victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night.

The single off Tyler Anderson in the first inning tied Volpe with Joe DiMaggio for the second-longest hitting streak in Yankees franchise history by a player who was 23 years old or younger.

Volpe is also one hit away from tying DiMaggio's record for the longest hitting streak by a player with such youth.

He is hitting .285/.356/.434 (124 OPS+) with six home runs and 11 stolen bases in his first 55 games.

Alek Manoah Departs With Elbow Discomfort, Set For MRI

May 30, 2024 10:10 AM

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah will have an MRI on Thursday after he left the team's 3-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox because of right elbow discomfort.

With two out and a runner on third in the second inning, Manoah was checked on by manager John Schneider and an athletic trainer after throwing a 91.4 mph sinker for a ball.

He departed after a short discussion on the mound.

Manoah, 26, is 1-2 with a 3.70 ERA in five starts this season. He was tagged for six runs, four earned, and five hits in 4 2/3 innings in a 6-2 loss at the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.

"Felt it after my start in Detroit and tried to do everything I can with the training staff through the week," Manoah said. "Threw a bullpen a couple days ago, kind of felt fine. I felt like I was able to go out there and compete and give the team a chance, and just wasn't able to."

Manoah said he felt like he was "guarding it" into the second.
