Florida International infielder Garrett Wittels singled in the eighth inning of a Sun Belt tournament game on Saturday to extend his hitting streak to 53 straight games.
Wittels now stands five games shy from tying the all-time Division I record of 58 straight games.

Garrett Wittels extended the second-longest hitting streak in college baseball history to 51 games on Friday.
He is within seven games of the record set by Robin Ventura back in 1987.
Wittels, a sophomore infielder for Florida International University, delivered a run-scoring single in his first at-bat Friday to keep his streak alive.
