Steve Cohen Denies Mets Are Planning To Sell At Deadline

May 17, 2024 8:16 AM

The New York Mets are enduring another disappointing season, but owner Steve Cohen insists that the club won't sell at the trade deadline.

In a since deleted tweet, Cohen replied Wednesday to a fan on social media who said the front office should blow it up and sell at the trade deadline.

"All in the future, not much we can do until the trade deadline," the owner tweeted.

On Thursday, Cohen clarified his since-deleted tweet to SNY, the team's regional network, saying he did not intend to signal the Mets are looking to sell.

"I believe in this team," Cohen said. "I believe in the back of the baseball card. It's way too early to speculate on anything. It's May 16. I expect to make the playoffs. I know the fan base is frustrated, but it's still early. We're still very capable of making the playoffs. I fully expect to make the playoffs."

Mets' Kodai Senga To Test Arm With Bullpen Session

May 14, 2024 8:23 AM

Kodai Senga, who has not pitched for the New York Mets this season, is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday that could determine how soon he returns to game action.

Senga said that he is overhauling his mechanics as part of his rehab process: "With my current mechanics, I didn't think I'd be able to come back at 100%."

The 31-year-old was shut down in February because of a shoulder strain.

He received a PRP injection and was initially shut down for three weeks. Senga's mechanical reinvention has prolonged his absence.

Pete Alonso 'Not Particularly Thinking About' Free Agency

May 8, 2024 8:17 AM

Pete Alonso is in what could be his final season with the New York Mets.

The first baseman, 29, is hitting .212/.297/.445 with nine home runs in 155 plate appearances this season.

A few weeks ago, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns admitted Alonso reaching free agency is "the most likely outcome." The two sides have reportedly had talks on an extension over the years.

"I'm not particularly thinking about that right now," Alonso said.

"I love the city I play in. I consider myself a New Yorker," he added. "I have a great relationship with guys on the team obviously. And I think I have a great relationship with people in the front office and Steve as well. We'll see what happens this winter. It's a big question mark. For me, right now, I'm just focusing on doing what I can to help us win every day."
