Yu Darvish struck out the 3,000th batter of his career in the fifth inning of his start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.

Darvish's strikeouts include his time in both Major League Baseball and Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball league.

The San Diego Padres right-hander is just the second pitcher to ever clear the 3,000-strikeout threshold while notching at least 1,000 strikeouts in each league -- he joins Hideo Nomo.

"Longevity and just being able to stay in the game for this long -- all in all, I'm grateful," Darvish, 36, told MLB.com through a team interpreter. "I feel grateful right now."
