There was mutual interest between the Miami Marlins and Nick Castellanos this offseason.

The outfielder felt he'd end up signing with the Marlins, his hometown club, until Derek Jeter resigned as the team's CEO.

Castellanos ended up signing with the Philadelphia Phillies.

It has been rumored that Jeter expected ownership to spend more money this offseason. When he stepped down, Jeter cited a "vision for the future of the franchise" that no longer seemed to prevail within the organization.

Castellanos told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald that Jeter wanted to sign him.
