Brian Cashman confirmed on Monday that the New York Yankees never made official offers to Carlos Correa and Freddie Freeman in free agency.

The Yankees, instead, opted for short-term deals to fill holes on the roster.

"We never made an official offer to Correa or Freeman, but we were in touch with their reps on what they were looking for," Cashman said on WFAN in New York.

The Yankees have a reported payroll of $262.1 million, a franchise record, but well south of the Los Angeles Dodgers ($292.9M) and Mets ($285.9M).
