The Chicago Cubs agreed to a three-year, $71 million deal with Marcus Stroman just ahead of Major League Baseball's lockout, according to sources.

Stroman rushed to the airport and caught a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago as soon as he got word of the deal from his agent.

The deal includes an opt-out after the second season, sources said.

Stroman will make $25 million in 2022, $25 million in 2023 and $21 million in 2024, and the deal includes $2 million escalators for reaching 160 innings pitched in '22 and '23, sources said.
