Jacob deGrom is enjoying a historic start to the 2021 season.

The New York Mets right-hander threw six scoreless innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, lowering his ERA to 0.71.

That's the lowest ERA for a qualified starter through the end of May since Chris Short had a 0.64 ERA for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1964.

Before deGrom, the last pitcher with a sub-1.00 ERA through May was Ubaldo Jimenez of the Colorado Rockies in 2010 with a 0.78.
