Jed Hoyer says the trade that sent Yu Darvish to the San Diego Padres wasn't a financially motivated move by the Chicago Cubs.

Moving Darvish shed $59 million in salary owed over the next three years.

Hoyer called the Cubs' current state a "small reset."

"I think we're going to have a really competitive team next year," Hoyer added. "... But do we need to make some moves with the future in mind after six years of every single move being directed on the present? Yes."
