The Houston Astros beat the New York Yankees 4-1 in Game 3 of the ALCS on Tuesday afternoon.

Gerrit Cole wasn't perfect, walking five and scattering four hits, but he struck out seven and didn't allow a run over seven innings. New York's lone run, a Gleyber Torres home run, was hit off Joe Smith in the eighth.

Luis Severino had six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings, but surrendered two home runs -- one to Jose Altuve in the first and another to Josh Reddick in the second.

Houston broke the game open in the seventh with a pair of runs. Altuve scored on a wild pitch from Zack Britton and Yuli Gurriel followed that up with a sacrifice fly to score Michael Brantley.

Aside from Torres' home run, the Yankees failed to threaten in the late innings. Their greatest chance for a multi-score inning came in the first when D.J. LeMahieu and Aaron Judge singled to open the frame. Cole got two quick outs before walking Torres to load the bases. Didi Gregorius then grounded out to end the rally.

Cole has now won 19 straight decisions.

The clubs are scheduled to play Game 4 on Wednesday night, but the forecast in New York is calling for significant rain.
