Anibal Sanchez limited the St. Louis Cardinals to a single hit over 7 2/3 innings as the Washington Nationals won Game 1 of the NLCS on Friday night.

Sanchez threw 103 pitches, striking out five and walking just one. He carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Sean Doolittle came in to relieve him and continued to shut down St. Louis.

Yan Gomes doubled to center in the second, scoring Howie Kendrick to put the Nationals on the board. In the seventh, Kendrick singled to center bringing Adam Eaton home. The two runs were more than Washington needed.

Game 2 will feature Max Scherzer and Adam Wainwright at Busch Stadium.

Miles Mikolas pitched well for the Cardinals, scattering seven hits over six innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
