Ken Williams and Mark Buehrle spoke with each other on Saturday and cleared the tension in the air. "The quote that really bothered him, I guess, was something to do with the overpayment of mediocrity on the open market. I wasn't talking about Mark Buehrle," Williams said. Williams ran into Buehrle's parents early Saturday morning, explained his situation, and later told the pitcher the same thing face to face. "All I've said is that the likelihood, the market being as it is, his career being as it has been, where we are -- well, you have to look at it and say, 'Hmm, I don't know that I'm too optimistic (about a long-term deal),' '' Williams said. "But is it possible? At one point in time I didn't think we'd be able to sign Jose Contreras to an extension or Jon Garland or (Paul) Konerko."
