If the New York Mets aren't interested in signing Jacob deGrom to a long-term deal, the pitcher wants the club to consider trading him.

Brodie Van Wagenen, deGrom's agent, said in a statement to The Athletic that his client is interested in "exploring a long-term partnership that would keep him in a Mets uniform for years to come."

"If the Mets don't share [the] same interest, we believe their best course of action is to seriously consider trade opportunities now," Van Wagenen said. "The inertia of [the] current situation could complicate Jacob's relationship with the club and creates an atmosphere of indecision."

Van Wagenen later told the New York Post that his statement to The Athletic is "not a demand for a trade."

"It is simply expressing Jacob's interest to stay with the club long-term, and if he is not part of the future, he understands that the club is better positioned to trade him," Van Wagenen said.
