The Houston Astros are "actively pursuing a high-end starter," according to owner Jim Crane.

The move could come via free agency or trade.

Crane added that the Astros are willing to dip into their deep farm system to acquire a front-line starter. They inquired with the Pittsburgh Pirates about Gerrit Cole, according to a source.

"We're always looking to upgrade the team," Crane said. "It would have to be a significant upgrade. We're happy where we're at. We've been told on paper we have the best team in baseball, but paper doesn't win titles."
