The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped Yasiel Puig to eighth in the batting order in Monday's season opener.

Dave Roberts admitted that Puig's inconsistencies this spring led to the decision.

Puig, playing right field, went 1-3 with a double and two walks in the Dodgers' 14-3 win over the San Diego Padres.

"I hope Yasiel makes it tough for me to hit him down [in the lineup]," Roberts said. "I think if he does that, and he plays to what we all know he can and to what he expects out of himself, then it could change the construction of the lineup."
