Jason Kipnis will get a second opinion on his strained right rotator cuff at the end of this week.

Until then, the Cleveland Indians have placed Kipnis on limited activity.

Both Kipnis and Terry Francona said that if it were the regular season the infielder would be playing through the injury. The manager said Monday that Kipnis would be shut down for two weeks.

"Actually I was making a lot of good progression in my hitting and throwing," said Kipnis. "I was starting to be pain free. It was just the side effects of it - there was some other stuff going on not related to baseball movements, like everyday movements that were triggering a pain in the shoulder.

"They could strengthen everything to do baseball movements, it was the other movements that they never really considered. I think that was causing us some problems."
