The St. Louis Cardinals are interested in Justin Turner, but payroll may prohibit them from signing the infielder.

Turner rejected a qualifying offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers, which means the team that signs him would have to forfeit a draft pick.

The Cardinals have $120 million committed for next season, not including several players who are eligible for arbitration. According to a report, St. Louis could look to trade Jhonny Peralta to shed salary. He is owed $10 million in 2017.
