The Opsera is a statistic RealGM Executive Editor Chris Reina created in order to objectively rank teams by how well they hit (OPS) and pitch (ERA). In order to determine the Opsera rating for each, we take their OPS, multiply that number by 10 to move the decimal point over one place to the right and then subtract their ERA from that number. Below are the rankings through the Thursday, May 3rd games: The rankings from last week are in parenthesizes. 1. (2) St. Louis Cardinals - 5.27 The Cardinals have the biggest run differential (+62) in baseball by a wide margin. 2. (1) Texas Rangers - 4.92 Texas has lost two-straight, but they still have a nice cushion over Los Angeles in the AL West. 3. (4) Baltimore Orioles - 4.67 The Orioles have a top-eight offense and Jason Hammel has the fourth-lowest ERA (1.97) in the AL. 4. (8) San Francisco Giants - 3.97 They hold down fourth place in the NL West, but a tremendous team ERA has boosted a middling offense in our rankings. 5.
