Despite the team's bankruptcy issues, the Dodgers may still be able to offer some significant contracts to free agents this winter. In addition to chasing other players, the Dodgers could also look to sign outfielder Matt Kemp to a long-term contract. According to parties involved in the team's federal bankruptcy proceedings, owner Frank McCourt won't be prevented from offering big contracts this offseason. "Whatever happens with the club, it's in everyone's interest for the team to be competitive and not compromised in trying to operate," said Michael Weiner, executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association. "They'll be permitted to make whatever decisions they have to make."
