National League All-Star manager Bruce Bochy has named Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero to the roster to replace Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco. Because Polanco was a fan-elected starter, his replacement was to be selected by the manager in conjunction with Major League Baseball. Polanco will be inactive on Tuesday but will attend the festivities in Phoenix. Scott Rolen, the third baseman via the Player Ballot, will be the National League's starting third baseman in the Midsummer Classic. San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval, who was added to the N.L. All-Star roster earlier today, will serve as a reserve third baseman. With the addition of Montero, the N.L. now has three catchers on its roster. Montero joins teammate Justin Upton of the host Diamondbacks on the N.L. roster. Montero, who turned 28 Saturday, is batting .273 with 40 runs scored, 22 doubles, 10 home runs and 45 RBI on the season. This is the first All-Star selection in the six-year Major League career of Montero.
