MLB announced the 2010 All-Star rosters on Sunday. Starting for the National League will be Albert Pujols, David Wright, Yadier Molina, Chase Utley, Hanley Ramirez, Ryan Braun, Andre Ethier and Jason Heyward. For the American League, Joe Mauer, Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter, Justin Morneau, Evan Longoria, Josh Hamilton, Ichiro Suzuki and Carl Crawford will start. National League position players who have made the All-Star squad as a result of the Player Ballot are catcher Brian McCann of the Atlanta Braves; first baseman Adrian Gonzalez of the San Diego Padres; Braves second baseman Mart?n Prado, who will start at second base for the injured, fan-elected Chase Utley of the Philadelphia Phillies; shortstop Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies; third baseman Scott Rolen of the Cincinnati Reds; and outfielders Corey Hart of the Milwaukee Brewers, Matt Holliday of the St. Louis Cardinals and Marlon Byrd of the Chicago Cubs. Since Tulowitzki is on the disabled list and will be unable to play in the All-Star Game, New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes, the next highest ranking shortstop on the Player Ballot, has been designated as Tulowitzki?s replacement on the active N.L. roster. National League pitchers who have earned All-Star honors via the Player Ballot include starters Ubaldo Jimenez of the Rockies; Roy Halladay of the Phillies; Josh Johnson of the Florida Marlins; Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants; and Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals. The All-Star relievers via the Player Ballot are Matt Capps of the Washington Nationals; Brian Wilson of the Giants; and Jonathan Broxton of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Manuel had nine slots to round out the rest of the N.L. roster. The position players chosen by the manager in conjunction with Major League Baseball are first baseman Ryan Howard of the Phillies; infielder Omar Infante of the Braves; outfielders Michael Bourn of the Houston Astros and Chris Young of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Since Utley is on the DL and will be unavailable to play in the All-Star Game and Prado will be the N.L.?s starting second baseman, Manuel has chosen Brandon Phillips of the Reds as the reserve second baseman. The pitchers that Manuel selected are starters Chris Carpenter of the Cardinals, Yovani Gallardo of the Brewers and Tim Hudson of the Braves and relievers Evan Meek of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Arthur Rhodes of the Cincinnati Reds. American League position players who are invited to the 81st All-Star Game as a result of Player Balloting are catcher Victor Martinez of the Boston Red Sox; first baseman Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers; second baseman Dustin Pedroia of the Red Sox; shortstop Elvis Andrus of the Texas Rangers; third baseman Adrian Beltre of the Red Sox; outfielders Vernon Wells and Jose Bautista of the Blue Jays and Torii Hunter of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim; and designated hitter David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox. Since Martinez and Pedroia are both on the DL and will be unable to play in the All-Star Game, they have been replaced by the next highest ranking players at their respective positions on the Player Ballot, catcher John Buck of the Blue Jays and second baseman Ian Kinsler of the Rangers, on the active A.L. roster. A.L. pitchers who have made the 2010 All-Star Game as a result of the Player Ballot include starters David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays; Red Sox teammates Clay Buchholz and Jon Lester; Phil Hughes of the New York Yankees; and Cliff Lee of the Seattle Mariners. The relievers whose All-Star berths stem from the Player Ballot are Mariano Rivera of the Yankees, Neftali Feliz of the Rangers, and Jose Valverde of the Detroit Tigers. Girardi?s seven selections included a pair of position players: second baseman Ty Wigginton of the Baltimore Orioles and third baseman Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees. Filling out the remainder of the A.L. roster are starting pitchers Trevor Cahill of the Oakland Athletics, Fausto Carmona of the Cleveland Indians, and CC Sabathia of the Yankees; and relievers Joakim Soria of the Kansas City Royals and Matt Thornton of the Chicago White Sox.
