The Padres could get better value in return for first baseman Adrian Gonzalez if they wait to deal him, writes Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Morosi writes that Gonzalez's value would be very high around the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. He'll be as close to free agency as Mark Teixeira was back in 2007 when the Rangers dealt him to the Braves and got Elvis Andrus and Neftali Feliz in return. As long as there are free-agent options at first base, Morosi believes that it will be hard for San Diego general manager Jed Hoyer to have much leverage in trade talks.
