After the Yankees beat the Twins in eleven innings on Friday night, umpires admitted a significant mistake. Phil Cuzzi, the left field umpire, called a line-drive hit by Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer foul in the top of the 11th inning. It was clearly fair and although Mauer singled later in the at-bat, he was robbed of a ground-rule double to lead off the inning. "The left field umpire Phil Cuzzi saw the ball foul and called what he saw, rendered the ball foul decision," crew chief Tim Tschida told the New York Daily News. "Afterwards, like any close play, we went in and looked at it and it's a clear indication that an incorrect decision was rendered."
