Ruben Amaro Jr. has been the Phillies' assistant general manager since 1998. Amaro interviewed yesterday in Houston for the Astros' vacant GM position. "I thought it went well," he said last night. "I was pleased to have gotten the opportunity to meet with them. I got a chance to learn a little bit more about their organization, and I hope they got a chance to learn a little bit more about me. I enjoyed it." Interestingly, former Phillies general manager Ed Wade interviewed for the same job Wednesday. "Ed's still a very good friend of mine. He's the godfather of my child," Amaro said. "I wish the best for him all the time, and I assume he wishes the best for me. If I'm not fortunate enough to get the job, I'd love to see him get it."
