According to outfielder Jermaine Dye, he and the White Sox had been talking about a contract extension the last few weeks. And with Dye not getting traded before Tuesday's non-waiver deadline passed, he's hoping a deal can be reached before he enters free agency this offseason. ''There's been talks,'' Dye said. ''Something probably can get done. I don't think they wanted to trade me. [General manager Ken Williams] expressed he wants me here, and it's just a matter of them seeing what they can do. They have a budget, so they have to try to figure out some things there. ''Hopefully, this is a good sign. I don't think they want to just give me away for nothing. Hopefully, something will get done.'' Sources said money isn't the sticking point as much as the number of years. Dye, 33, said he wants this to be his last multiyear contract and would like to do at least a three-year deal. The Sox are willing to do a one-year deal, possibly two years.
