Carlos Beltran nearly landed with the Yankees six years ago, but his dream may finally come true this summer. The outfielder wanted to sign with the Yankees prior to the 2005 season. "That's a long time ago," Beltran said heading into this weekend's Subway Series. "That's in the past. I don't think about it anymore." The Mets enter the series 21-22 with depleted finances and the possibly of trades on the horizon. Beltran, who is making $20 million in the final season of his contract, would have to waive his no-trade clause prior to any deal. Jorge Posada has struggled as the designated hitter of the Yankees this season.
