The Cleveland Indians agreed to terms with shortstop Jhonny Peralta on a one-year contract Thursday. Peralta established himself as one of the game's best shortstops last season, replacing veteran Omar Vizquel without missing a beat. Entering the 2005 season as the reigning MVP of the International League, Peralta not only filled the void defensively that Vizquel left but also stepped into the No. 3 hole in the batting order. The 23-year-old Peralta finished his first full season in the majors with a .292 average, 24 home runs - a club single-season record for a shortstop - and 78 RBI. His .521 slugging percentage ranked second among American League shortstops and was also the second highest total in franchise history behind Lou Boudreau's mark of .534 in 1948.
