Johan Santana will have his left elbow examined Tuesday rather than make his scheduled start against the Marlins in Miami. Manager Jerry Manuel announced after the Mets' 6-2 loss to the Phillies on Monday that Santana has experienced pain in the elbow since before the All-Star break and that he, Manuel, is "terribly concerned." Santana left Citi Field on Monday before the announcement was made. RealGM Note: Santana had a brilliant April with a 1.10 ERA and 12.1 K/9 rate, but his performance plummeted beginning in June with an ERA of 6.19 during the month. Even in July when he had a 1.82 ERA, Santana's K/9 rate was just 6.2, which is well below his career average.
