Buster Olney of ESPN.com is reporting that the Rays are claiming a lot of cheap, young players. "It's probably been a nerve-wracking time for them," one talent evaluator said, "because there's always that fear that you might get stuck with multiple players on waiver claims, and suddenly you have a major roster problem develop. I'm sure they're making claims on a lot of these guys with the expectation that there's no chance that they'll get them." The Rays are eight games behind the Yankees in the AL East, but just 1 1/2 games back of the Rangers and Red Sox in the Wild Card race.
