At first, White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper spoke in very cautious tones when questioned Sunday afternoon about his team's starting rotation for the American League Championship Series. "We feel comfortable sending anybody out there," said Cooper in response to a specific question in regard to the Game 1 starter. "More importantly than me or Ozzie or Kenny [Williams, GM] feeling comfortable with any of our guys," Cooper added, "everybody on the team feels comfortable with any guy we send out there, because they've all done the job." Four questions later, Cooper was asked point blank if the reason Jose Contreras was selected as the opening starter dealt with the unbelievable hot streak the right-hander has been riding since the All-Star break. Cooper asked a question of his own before responding. "What did Ozzie say over there?" asked Cooper, who spoke to the media after manager Ozzie Guillen had his off-day session with the media. When told that Guillen confirmed the rotation would be Contreras, Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland and Freddy Garcia, Cooper smiled and continued with his reply. "That factored in," said Cooper of Contreras' 12-2 record over 16 starts since the All-Star break. "Right now, heck, with Jose going [in Game] 1 and ... "Jose's hot, obviously and we don't want to be the one cooling him down," Cooper added. "If anybody gets a chance to do that, it should be the opposing hitters."
