St. Louis lefty Mark Mulder woke up at 4 a.m. Friday with a throbbing throwing arm after getting hit with a line drive during the Cardinals' 6-2 victory in Game 2 over San Diego on Thursday. He's never been one to bruise easily and he'd never been hit this hard by a liner before, so he was nervous. After Joe Randa's shot hit him, Mulder could see marks from the laces of the ball for several innings. His biceps has a spot of purple now, which Mulder says is a big deal considering he never turns black and blue. "It's just bruised, sore and stiff," Mulder said Friday after a long treatment session. "It looks pretty cute. I couldn't throw today, there's no way."
