Yankees' Interest In Marcus Stroman Wasn't Very High

Sep 24, 2019 7:41 AM

The New York Yankees were strongly linked to Marcus Stroman at the trade deadline, but the club's interest in the pitcher wasn't especially high.

The Toronto Blue Jays ultimately traded Stroman to the New York Mets.

"We were interested in Stroman but we didn't think he would be a difference-maker," Brian Cashman said. "We felt he would be in our bullpen in the postseason."

The Blue Jays were reportedly asking for Clint Frazier in a package for Stroman, a price the Yankees deemed too high.

Twins Investigating Giants Over Sam Dyson's Health

Sep 24, 2019 7:36 AM

The Minnesota Twins acquired Sam Dyson from the San Francisco Giants at the trade deadline.

At the time Dyson had a 2.47 ERA and 6.71 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Since joining the Twins, the reliever has a 7.15 ERA and 1.33 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 12 appearances.

Dyson is also expected to miss the remainder of the regular season with a shoulder injury.

The Twins aren't happy and have begun "investigating" whether the Giants knew about Dyson's injured shoulder at the time of the trade.

Dyson reportedly informed the Twins shortly after joining them that he had been pitching with some discomfort, dating to a July 15-17 series against the Colorado Rockies.

Red Sox Likely To Lose Mookie Betts Or J.D. Martinez This Offseason

Sep 11, 2019 7:44 AM

The Boston Red Sox are likely to part with either Mookie Betts or J.D. Martinez, if not both, this coming winter.

Doing so would allow the Red Sox to get under the luxury tax threshold.

Betts has one year of team control left before he qualifies for free agency.

Martinez, meanwhile, can opt out of his contract after this season or next. If he doesn't opt out, he'll make $60 million over the next three years.

Jed Hoyer admitted during an interview on Tuesday that the Chicago Cubs regret not trading for Justin Verlander back in 2017.

The Houston Astros acquired Verlander from the Detroit Tigers for three prospects. Since then, he has a 2.43 ERA in 68 starts for Houston.

"Of course we have regret," Hoyer said.

At the time, it was reported that the Cubs were deep in talks with the Tigers and that Verlander preferred to go to Chicago.
